UPDATE: "Project Growmore"

UPDATE: Imagine a hydroponic system that does not rely upon external power. No AC/DC volt pumps to buy. A system that doesn't require a lot of land or space and basically operates itself, all you do is plant a seed and let the system do the rest. It could be used indoors, outdoors, or even on a small apartment patio. And In 45-60 days, you can enjoy a plentiful harvest. All of this, done without any special experience, knowledge, or even a Green Thumb. This is the dream and goal of "Project Growmore".

The good news is that, even though we're still in the planning/brain-storming mode, we've managed to over-come several very large obstacles. There is still a lot to work on before moving to the mock-up stage, but we're excited with the progress so far.

The difficult aspects of this project is creating a system that does not use any form of electricity (AC/DC, or even solar) to power the pumping system. The reason is that people in a Third World may not have access to electricity, plus we don't want to design something that will require a person to have to purchase any equipement. Another challenge is designing a system that is 100% adaptable to any recycled resources that can be found. Finally, the system must be expandable to any size, from a small, green-leafed vegetable system to a large, multi crop, communal system.

The final system will be free of any patent and placed in the Public Domain, so that everyone can use it. Hopefully this will help put an end to hunger and starvation.

Some might think that this is out of the scope of being a Prepper, but the way I see it is that Preppers gain a great deal of knowledge on many skills due to the diversity of thier preparations, and since the goal of many of us is to position ourselves to be a help to others in time of need - then why not start now? I was recently asked, "why I am doing this". And I told them, "because I can".

"Project Growmore" is operating grant-free, meaning we are paying all the costs. Because of this, your help is needed. Please purchase items from our On-Line Stores. They can be found at The Prepper Daily. Right now, we have a Hydroponic Store, our Natural Medicine Store, and a Prepper Equipment Store that offers everything just about any thing a Prepper might need; books, clothing, long-term storage food, canning & preserving equipment, bug-out bags, knives, fishing & trapping gear, and even some self defense items. All of this at very good prices! We are constantly adding new items, so please check us out the next time you want a bargain on your Prepper needs. Thank you, for supporting this much needed project.

NEW UPDATE: One of our Facebook followers gave me a very good idea. He said that we need a nice logo, something that could be printed on shirts and hats. So, since I'm not much of an artist, I'm going to create a contest. You have the opportunity to help us to come up with a design for a shirt. The person who comes up with a design, that we decide to go with, will recieve a FREE T-Shirt, with his or hers design on it. I'll be posting more on this real soon!

Good Indoor Hydroponic System

This homemade backyard DIY aquaponics hydroponics system is made up of of large industrial liquid tank that apparently contained craisins (concentrated raisins). It is an indoor system and will need grow lights to provide light to the plants.

The tank has been cut into two pieces, roughly one quarter from the top. The larger bottom container will house fish. The smaller upper container is flipped upside-down and will contain the plants.

There is a submersible water pump in the bottom container that will continuously pump water from the bottom nutrient reservoir to the plants in the top. From there it will pass through another PVC pipe back to the bottom reservoir to be recycled.

Aquaponics is a unique type of hydroponics garden, where plants are grown in the absence of soil, and also in the absence of exogenous nutrients. Instead, fish excrement that is contained within the water that they live in is used to feed plants. In turn, plant by-products provide additional food for the fish. This sets up a largely self-sustaining ecosystem where both fish and plants thrive.

Hydroponics - A Real System for Real Survival

by The Urban Survivalist

It would be great if all of us had a nice piece of land that we could run off to when the SHTF, unfortunately, that's not the case. Most of us will be honkered down in an urban area and if you prepared right, you can stay there, hidden away from the angery, hungry mobs of people. But what happens when you start running low? Or maybe its just a matter of your body needing more nutrients than those "Ready to Eat Meals" are giving you. Face it, your body needs fresh food, not something that was preserved back in 1958. So, it looks like a "Road Trip" might be in your future!

There is a solution. Grow your own food. Our ancestors have done this since the dawn of time. Why can't you? Perhaps you've convinced yourself that you don't have enough land or maybe you've thought that it would be a waste once the water stops flowing. WRONG!

Those excuses are easily overcome with Hydroponics. There are several hydroponics techniques but they all allow for food to be grown faster, in a small space, and just about anywhere including basements, and even balconies. Heck, I have a system operating in my living room right now.

Tomatoes, lettuce, watercress, cucumbers, herbs, and various other edible plants all do well in a hydroponic garden. Beginning growers will be satisfied with the quality of their crops, and the rates at which they will grow. You'll be surprised at how good your vegetables taste and at the amount of vegetable from such a small space. One of the reasons is that because the nutrients are being generously supplied, the plant doesn't need to generate a large root system, instead its energies are directed towards plant growth and plant fruit.

If you find yourself in a Survival Situation, there is another benefit - concealment. I pity the farmer with 20-50 acres. He'll have hordes of people tearing up his fields, but the Hydroponic Farmer doesn't have to worry about this. Since many systems are small and require very little attention, no one will even know you have a bumper crop in the making. You'll be able to produce fresh fruits and vegetables, which means that you've extended your "survival time". [Survival Time is what I refer to when people ask me how much food they should store. I simply ask them, "how long do you want to live?"]

A Hydroponic System is more important than that case of MRE's, because it's on-going. A perpetual system of regenerating food for you and your family. Isn't it time you got your own Hydroponic System?
